UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; March 30, 2008 - Two members of the Nittany Lion football team were among the participants today as U.S. Senator Barack Obama visited the Penn State campus.
Senior tackle Gerald Cadogan (Portsmouth, Ohio) sang the national anthem. Senior cornerback Lydell Sargeant (Lompoc, Calif.) introduced Pennsyvlania Senator Bob Casey, who then introduced Obama, who spoke on the steps of Old Main. Sargeant presented Obama with a Penn State football jersey before he began his remarks.
Obama's rally drew an estimated 20,000 to 22,000 people to the Old Main lawn, according to University official Richard DiEugenio - by far the biggest in a weekend of smaller, face-to-face campaign stops since Obama launched a six-day bus tour through the state on Friday.
Before the rally, Obama played basketball in the Bryce Jordan Center, home of the Nittany and Lady Lion Basketball teams. He also visited a university-run dairy farm.
