Women's Gymnastics Announces 2009 Schedule

University Park, Pa. - The Penn State women's gymnastics team, who ended last season ranked 14th in the country, will host five home meets at Rec Hall in 2009, including two double-duals with the Nittany Lion men's team.

The upcoming slate features seven regular-season meetings with teams that finished in the top 25 in the nation last year, including contests with Alabama (No. 6), Michigan (No. 8), Nebraska (No. 13), Illinois (No. 15), Michigan State (No. 18), Ohio State (No. 18) and West Virginia (No. 22).

Penn State opens the season at home with Pittsburgh on Jan. 10 in the first of two double-duals with the Nittany Lion men's team at Rec Hall. After traveling to Illinois on Jan. 17, the Lions return to Rec Hall to host Michigan State in another double-dual on Jan. 24. Penn State closes out the month on the road at Nebraska on Jan. 30 and then hosts a quad meet with William & Mary, Cornell and Penn on Feb. 7. After traveling to Michigan on Feb. 13, Penn State hosts another quad meet with New Hampshire, Rutgers and Bridgeport on Feb. 21 before closing out the regular-season home schedule with Ohio State and Alabama on March 1. The Nittany Lions finish out the regular-season on the road, competing at West Virginia (March 8) and at Maryland with Arizona State (March 14).

The University of Illinois will be the site of the 2009 Big Ten Women's Gymnastics Championships on Saturday, March 21 at 2:00 p.m., as Penn State faces Michigan State, Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio State and Illinois in search of their first conference crown.

The six sites for the NCAA Regional Championships on Saturday, April 4 will be Ohio State, Iowa, Alabama, Arkansas, NC State and Washington. The NCAA National Championships will be held April 16-18 on the campus of the University of Nebraska.
