FARMINGTON, PA. - The Penn State men's golf team finished in third place after a two-under final round 292 and a three-day total of 889 to conclude the 33rd Rutherford Intercollegiate.
Penn State shot rounds of 300-297-292 (889), finishing in third at +25. The Purdue Boilermakers topped the leader board with a three-under 285-final-day and a three-day total 871. VCU finished in second place at 22-over (886).
Junior Kevin Foley (Sommerville, N.J.) and sophomore Tommy McDonagh (Wilton, Conn.) represented Penn State in the top 10, both tied for eighth. Foley finished the day at +1 (73) with a tournament score of 75-73-72 (221). McDonagh also finished at +1 with scores of 71-77-73 (221). After a hole-in-one in round two, Foley birdied holes two- four, six, and 15 in his final round.
Junior T.J. Howe (Osceola, Pa.) and senior Matt Leon (Brampton, Ontario) both tied for 24th with a total tournament of 227. Howe scored 82-71-74 and Leon scored 79-76-72. Both were 11-over (227).
Penn State takes a two-and-a-half-week break before heading to Olympia Fields, Ill., for the Fighting Illini Invitational. Play will begin on Fri., Sept. 19th and continues through Sun., Sept. 21st.
