New Interstate Opening Results In 99-Cent Game Tickets for Blair County Residents

Nov. 23, 2008

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State athletic department hopes that the grand opening of Interstate 99's final phase in both directions means fans in Blair County will enjoy a fast break to basketball games this winter, and to emphasize their point, the Nittany Lion and Lady Lion basketball teams are encouraging residents of their neighboring county to attend games on Saturday, December 6 for only 99 cents per ticket. With the much anticipated completion and opening of I-99 on Monday, the travel time between the two counties has shortened, and as a result, Penn State fans living in Blair County can more quickly and conveniently get to and from the University Park campus and the Bryce Jordan Center, home of Penn State Basketball.

"We know that Hollidaysburg, Altoona, Tyrone and the entire Blair County area is rich with Penn State fans and basketball fans," said Greg Myford, Associate Athletic Director at Penn State. "But, we also know that the commute prior to I-99's opening was not always convenient from that direction. The opening of Interstate 99 just made us closer to our Blair County neighbors, so let's celebrate that and invite our neighbors over for some fun. With both a Lady Lion and Nittany Lion game on December 6, fans can pick which game they would like to come to and, what other price could we possibly use to recognize the opening of I-99?"

The special 99-cent offer for Blair County residents can be redeemed on the day of the games, featuring the Lady Lions hosting Dayton at Noon and the Nittany Lions facing intrastate foe Temple at 6:00pm. Both teams are undefeated on their respective seasons so far and do not play at the Bryce Jordan Center again until the December 6 date. Tickets can be purchased on game day beginning 60 minutes prior to tip off at the Bryce Jordan Center Ticket Office. Fans will simply need to show a form of ID that displays a Blair County zip code to receive the special price. A limit of four (4) tickets per ID can be purchased at the 99-cent price and the offer can be honored only while ticket supplies last.
