U.S. U-20 Women Advance to World Cup Final

Dec. 4, 2008

COQUIMBO, Chile - In an intense semi-final against Germany, Alyssa Naeher (Seymour, Conn.) and the U.S. prevailed 1-0 to advance to the World Cup championship game.

The Americans got on the board 21 minutes into the first half as Sydney Leroux found the back of the net for the fifth time of the tournament. Germany's best chance came with two minutes remaining, when Verena Faisst sent a cross-shot at goal from a difficult angle, forcing Naeher into a fine reflex save. Naeher was also alert when Bianca Schmidt shot from distance in the final minute, and the USA held on.

Future Nittany Lion Christine Nairn, Naeher and the U.S. U-20 Women's National Team will play Korea DPR for the World Cup championship Sunday, Dec. 7 at 4:30 p.m. ET. Fans can follow the action live on ESPN360.com.
