Dec. 7, 2008

SANTIAGO, Chile - The U.S. Under-20 Women's National Team captured the 2008 FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup Sunday with a 2-1 victory over Korea DPR. Alyssa Naeher was named Best Goalkeeper. Future Nittany Lion Christine Nairn also earned a start in the final. Naeher and Nairn are now the only Nittany Lions to have ever won a World Cup.

North Korea outshot the U.S. 15-9 as Naeher collected seven saves. Nairn was solid on offense as she fired three shots, one on goal, which was denied in a huge save by the North Korean keeper.

Naeher also recently collected a First Team All-America honor from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, the second of her career. For more updates on Penn State women's soccer throughout the off-season, go to www.GoPSUSports.com.
