UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - The Penn State women's basketball team produced an outstanding academic performance during the 2008 fall semester with 10 squad members earning at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPA). As a team, the Lady Lions earned a 3.2 GPA for the fall semester.
Among the 10 Lady Lions, four earned Dean's List recognition by posting a 3.5 GPA or higher this past semester. Senior Brianne O'Rourke (Pittsburgh, Pa.), juniors Nicole Arcidiacono (Langhorne, Pa.) and Meggan Quinn (Red Lion, Pa.) and sophomore Janessa Wolff (Park Rapids, Minn.) garnered Dean's List honors. Wolff has been on the Dean's List each of her three semesters in Happy Valley, while O'Rourke, Arcidiacono and Quinn are first-time Dean's List recipients.
The Lady Lions hit the road for games at Purdue on Thursday, Jan. 15 and at Michigan State on Sunday, Jan. 18 before returning home to face Wisconsin on Thursday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. The Wisconsin game will be $1 dog night for those fans in attendance. The 2009 WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State proudly supported by Mimi Barash Coppersmith (formerly known as THINK PINK Day) will take place on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 3 p.m., as the Lady Lions take on Iowa in the Bryce Jordan Center. The game can be seen on www.bigtennetwork.com. The first two Pink Zone events have raised more than $50,000 for breast cancer awareness. This year's fundraising efforts will benefit the Penn State Hershey Breast Cancer Institute, the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition and the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.
