UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - As Americans reflect on the inauguration of President Barack Obama, this week's episode of "Courtside with Coquese" focuses on how members of the Lady Lion Basketball team participated in the historic election process. Cameras were there as some players voted for the first time back in November and "Courtside with Coquese" takes viewers along for the young voters' journey to the polls.
The show also features a series of Big Ten challenges over the past two weeks and a special segment on how the team uses nutrition to prepare for games. Dr. Kristine Clark, the director of sports nutrition for Penn State's Athletic Department, offers inside information about the team's pre- and post-game nutrition programs.
"Courtside with Coquese" airs Friday at 10 p.m. and Saturday at 10:30 a.m. on WPSU-TV. This episode will also air Sunday at 9:30 a.m. on the Big Ten Network. Fans can also view it online at GoPSUsports.com, LadyLions.com and Comcast Video On Demand. This episode will re-air on WPSU-TV on Friday, January 30 at 10 p.m.
During this week's episode of "Courtside with Coquese," fans can catch a profile of Lady Lions forward Meredith Monroe. The junior from Olney, Maryland and her mother talk to WPSU about Monroe's beginnings as a basketball player in a segment called "Lady Lion Family Story Time."
The program won a Mid-Atlantic Emmy in 2008 for best Sports Program Series.
"Courtside with Coquese," is produced by WPSU-TV, central Pennsylvania's PBS-member station, which offers a unique behind-the-scenes look at one of the nation's top women's basketball programs. "Courtside with Coquese" takes viewers on an all-access tour of the Lady Lion program including road trips, locker room access, features, game highlights and player interviews.
Coach Coquese Washington is in her second season as head coach of the Penn State Lady Lion Basketball Team. She came to Penn State from Notre Dame University, where she served as an assistant for eight seasons, most recently as associate head coach. She is considered one of the top recruiters in the country and was instrumental in helping Notre Dame secure eight consecutive Top 25 recruiting classes, according to Blue Star Index. That is a feat only accomplished by two other programs in the country.
