UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State men's soccer head coach Barry Gorman has announced the signing of defender Brian Forgue to a National Letter of Intent. The Glenmoore, Pa. native will enroll in the fall and begin playing for the Nittany Lions in the 2009 season.
Forgue comes to Happy Valley after highly decorated and successful high school and club careers. A four-year varsity player at Downingtown West High School, the 6-0, 177 lb. defender led the Whippets to three straight Ches-Mont League Championships (2006-08) and to District I and PIAA State Championships in 2008. A two-time Downingtown team captain, he was named First Team All-Ches-Mont and First Team All-Area in 2006, 2007, and 2008. Forgue shined in his junior and senior seasons, as he was named to the NSCAA/adidas High School Boys' All-American Team, the Region II Pennsylvania Male All-America Team, the East Regional Pennsylvania Male All-America Team, the Pennsylvania Male All-State Team, the Southeastern Pennsylvania All-Star Team, and was the Ches-Mont League MVP in 2007 and 2008. Also an accomplished student, Forgue will graduate Downingtown with high academic honors.
At the club level, Forgue starred for FC Delco, one of the nation's top club programs. A member of the FC Delco Hammerheads since 2004 and their team captain for the last four years, he led them to the USYSA national championships in 2006 (runner-up), 2007 (3rd place), and 2008 (3rd place). Forgue also won four Region I Championships ('04, '06-'08) and two Region I Premier League Championships ('05, '07) with FC Delco.
Forgue's exceptional ability and vast achievements have earned him national attention. In August 2008, he was featured on the cover of ESPN RISE magazine, a publication that focuses on and celebrates the school athlete, and in an article on ESPNRISE.com titled "Forgue is on the brink of greatness."
As a Nittany Lion, Forgue will further strengthen a Penn State defense that features talented back line regulars Andy Parr (Hummelstown, Pa.), Andres Casais (Caracas, Venezuela), Mark Fetrow (West Chester, Pa.), and Justin Lee (Derwood, Md.) and goalkeepers Warren Gross (Greenfield Center, N.Y.) and Liam Fitzwater (Schuylkill Haven, Pa.).
