University Park, Pa. - Penn State men's volleyball sophomore libero Dennis Del Valle (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) has been named the EIVA Player of the Week, conference officials announced. The honor is the first of Del Valle's career and the fourth this season for a Nittany Lion as junior middle hitter Max Lipsitz (Williamsville, N.Y.) garnered the award on Jan. 27, senior middle hitter Max Holt (Cincinnati, Ohio) picked up the accolade on Feb. 16 and junior outside hitter Will Price (Gaithersburg, Md.) was honored on March 9.
In two hard-fought five-game losses to top-10 MPSF opponents, Del Valle averaged 2.70 digs per game and was named to the Active Ankle All-Tournament team. He tied the rally-scoring era school record for digs in a match when he picked up 18 at then-No. 7 Long Beach State and the previous night against then-No. 9 BYU, he posted nine total digs.
No. 7 Penn State (15-3) returns home this weekend to host IPFW and No. 15 Loyola-Chicago on Friday and Saturday, March 20-21 at 7:00 p.m. each night at Rec Hall. Admission to both contests is free and Gametracker and live video will be available each night at www.GoPSUsports.com.
