University Park, Pa. - Penn State men's volleyball senior middle hitter Max Holt (Cincinnati, Ohio) has been named the EIVA Player of the Week, conference officials announced. The award is the third of the season and the eighth of Holt's career, and is the sixth for a Nittany Lion, as junior middle hitter Max Lipsitz (Williamsville, N.Y.) garnered the award on Jan. 27, junior outside hitter Will Price (Gaithersburg, Md.) was honored on March 9 and sophomore libero Dennis Del Valle (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) picked up the accolade on March 16.
Holt aided the Nittany Lions in closing out the EIVA regular-season undefeated with a perfect 12-0 record. Against Princeton, Holt collected 10 kills on an errorless 11 swings to hit .900 with a match-high five blocks for a team-leading 12.5 total points. The following night at George Mason, Holt posted 13 kills on .579 hitting - one of five Lions in double-digit kills - while also adding a match-high three aces and two blocks. For the weekend, Holt averaged 3.83 kills per game on .700 hitting with three aces and seven blocks.
Penn State remains on the road this week, facing Ball State and Ohio State on the road on April 17-18. The Nittany Lions have a bye in the EIVA Quarterfinals on April 25 and then host the EIVA Semifinals on Thursday, April 30. The EIVA Championship will be Saturday, May 2 at Rec Hall, with the winner earning an automatic berth in the NCAA National Collegiate Semifinals on Thursday, May 7 in Provo, Utah. The NCAA National Collegiate Championship is slated for Saturday, May 9 in Provo, Utah.
