UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; - The Penn State men's golf team heads to West Lafayette, Ind. on Friday April 16, 2009 for the Boilermaker Invitational at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. The final regular season tournament will be hosted by Purdue before all Big Ten teams head back to State College, Pa., for the Big Ten Championships.
The three-round, two-day tournament will be held April 17-18 on the par-72, 7,220-yeard Kampen Course. The course will be extended to 7,465 yards for the final round of play on Sunday. The 18-team field will complete two rounds on Saturday April 17th. The final round will be held on Sunday with tee times beginning at 8:00 a.m.
This year's Boilermaker Invitational field includes seven teams ranked inside Golfweek's top 100 with six in the Big Ten conference. Teams include No. 9 Indiana, No. 14 Illinois, No. 28 Michigan State, No. 64 Iowa, No. 66 Penn State, No. 71 Eastern Michigan and No. 80 Purdue. Big Ten men's golfer of the week, Jorge Campillo of Indiana, will compete to defend his title after taking the individual championship in last years competition. Campillo is currently ranked No. 2 in the nation.
