PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - With the 115th Penn Relays beginning on Thursday, freshman Anya Uzoh (Laurel, Md.) kicked off the week for the Nittany Lions on Tuesday, standing in second place after five events of the Penn Relays decathlon competition at Franklin Field. The freshman scored 3424 points on the first day of competition and is less than 70 points off of leader Max Westman of Penn.

Uzoh began the day with an 11.43-second performance in the 100-meters, which was the second-fastest time in Tuesday's field and good for 767 points. In the long jump, Uzoh posted a mark of 21-01.25 (6.43), which was also the second-best mark in the competition. Uzoh's long jump was worth 682 points. The freshman than recorded a toss of 33-3 (10.13) in the shot put, before clearing 6-0 (1.83) in the high jump.

The rookie finished off the day on the high note, clocking 49.68 in the 400-meters - bettering the competition by a full second and earning 829 points.

Action continues tomorrow morning at 10 a.m., with the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1500-meters remaining.
