University Park, Pa. - Penn State and Rec Hall will host the 2009 Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Men's Volleyball Championship on Thursday and Saturday, April 30 and May 2. The top-seeded and defending national champion Nittany Lions (25-3) will face fifth-seed George Mason (14-15), who defeated both Harvard and Springfield to advance to the EIVA Semifinals. Second-seed Juniata (17-7) will square off with third-seed Saint Francis (15-14), who outlasted Princeton in five games to advance to the EIVA Semifinals.
Juniata and Saint Francis will kick off EIVA Semifinal action on Thursday, April 30 at 4:30 p.m. ET at Rec Hall while Penn State and George Mason will follow at 7:30 p.m. ET. The winners of each of the semifinal matches play for the EIVA Championship on Saturday, May 2 at 7:00 p.m. ET at Rec Hall.
Ticket prices are $5 for adults, $3 for youth and $2 per person for groups of 10 or more. Penn State students are free with their PSU ID. Tickets can be purchased the day of the event at Rec Hall, with the ticket office opening at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday and 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Gametracker will be available for all three matches and online video streaming details are still being finalized.
The EIVA Champion will join the tournament champions from the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) and the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), along with an at-large team selected by the NCAA Men's Volleyball Committee, for the NCAA National Collegiate Semifinals, slated for Thursday, May 7 in Provo, Utah, on the campus of BYU. The MIVA Championship, being held at Ohio State, will feature second-seed Lewis (21-7) against third-seed Ball State (17-9) at 5:00 p.m. ET and top-seed Ohio State (14-10) versus fourth-seed Loyola-Chicago (17-9) at 7:30 p.m. ET, both on Thursday, April 30. The MIVA Championship match is slated for Saturday, May 2 at 7:00 p.m. ET.
The MPSF Championship, being held at UC Irvine, features second-seeded Pepperdine (21-4) versus third-seed Cal State Northridge (24-6) at 5:00 p.m. PT (8:00 p.m. ET) and top-seed UC Irvine (25-4) against fifth-seed USC (18-10) at 7:30 p.m. PT (10:30 p.m. ET), also both on Thursday, April 30. The MPSF Championship match is slated for Saturday, May 2 at 7:00 p.m. PT (10:00 p.m. ET).
