May 26, 2009

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Kerry Shea (Baltimore, Md.) was recognized as Best Senior Midfielder by a nationwide vote in the 2009 LaxPower.com Fan Awards. Now in their third year, the LaxPower Fan Awards, are designed to acknowledge excellence and achievement in Division I lacrosse.

The 2009 team co-captain beat out five other star midfielders for the honor.

A First Team All-ALC selection in 2009, Shea was strong on both ends of the field throughout her distinguished career, equally skilled at scoring on the attack and at making defensive stops. Also a two-time Second Team All-ALC and IWLCA All-Region honoree (2007, 2008), she finished the season second among Nittany Lions in goals (24), ground balls (34), and caused turnovers (19) and third in points (27) and draw controls (27). In 58 career games, Shea totaled 84 goals and 17 assists.

In 2009, Shea helped lead Penn State's to its best conference record in two years and was instrumental in the Nittany Lions clinching the No. 2 seed in the ALC Championship, their highest seeding in the three-year history of the tournament. Penn State then advanced to the conference championship game for the first time, falling to eventual national champion Northwestern.
