JOHNSTON, Pa. - In the first round of the 56th annual prestigious Sunnehanna Amateur Tournament for Champions, Penn State's own Kevin Foley (Sommerville, N.J.) sits in first place among the best amateur golfers in the world.
Firing an opening round of 61, nine-under par, Foley leads the tournament by three strokes. The newly named All-American's premier performance of 61 tied the all-time best score. Competitors in the tournament include Captain of the Walker Cup Buddy Marucci, Cory Nagy and Jack Newman.
The 72-hole, four-day tournament is played at the Sunnehanna Country Club in Johnston, Pa., and has a long history of crowning golf's best. Previous participants include Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Fred Couples and Jack Nichlaus.
