June 23, 2009

University Park, Pa. - Penn State golfer Kevin Foley (Sommerville, N.J.) can add another award to his growing collection of accomplishments as he has been named third-team All-American by Golfweek. Foley has kick-started his summer career by recently taking first place at the Sunnehanna Amateur Tournament, topping the best-ranked amateurs in the country. Foley has also been named a 2009 PING All-American, GCAA All-Regional team member as well as first-team All-Big Ten selection, all in the last three months.

"Kevin proved himself this year and last to be one of the top collegiate players," said head coach Greg Nye. "He has elevated his status to becoming one of the countries top amatuer players."

Foley is a two-time GCAA All-American, taking home the title in back-to-back years starting in `08. He is just the sixth Nittany Lion to be named to First-Team All-Big Ten joining Penn State standouts Robert Rohanna, Matt Abbott, Dirk Ayers, Jim Fuller and Mark Leon.

Foley, who is ranked 69 by the SP World Amateur Rankings, will continue to build on his success June 24th at the 48th annual Northeast Amateur Invitational Golf Tournament. Joining Foley is former teammate, Robert Rohanna, ranked No. 171. The tournament will be held over four days and 72 holes at the Wannamoisett Country Club in Rumford, R.I.
