UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Head coach John Hargis was pleased to announce that senior Patrick Schirk (Pottstown, Pa.) has been selected to participate in this summer's 25th Summer Universiade (World University Games) hosted by Belgrade, Serbia. Schirk is the first athlete of Hargis' at PSU to compete in the Games.
"He's a Pennsylvania kid from Pottstown and it's an honor for him to represent the USA," Hargis remarked.
Schirk will compete in the 100m and 200m backstroke in Serbia at the Universiade, which runs from July 1-12. Schirk is slated to compete from July 5-9.
Schirk was a 14th and 16th place finisher in the 200m backstroke and 100m backstroke, respectively, in the 2009 NCAA Championships. The All-American swimmer was a 2008 NCAA Champion in the 200m backstroke, making PSU history as the first men's individual champion in program history.
