KANSAS CITY, Kan./OAKLAND, Calif. - The Penn State women's soccer team fell five spots in the most recent national rankings as released on Tuesday. The Nittany Lions are now 13th in the NSCAA poll as voted by the coaches, while the editors of Soccer America put Penn State 10th after an 0-1 week (Aug. 24-30).
Penn State (2-1-0) lost its only game of the week, a 2-1 set back to then No. 14/14 West Virginia on Saturday night. The Nittany Lions rebounded to beat Connecticut Monday, 3-2, twice having to recover from one-goal deficits to pull out the victory. WVU, which moved up to 7th and 9th, respectively, dropped its first match as a top-10 team, 1-0, to BYU (RV/No. 25) Monday at Jeffrey Field.
The Nittany Lions will have three games to their credit by the time the next rankings come out including the Connecticut result. Penn State travels to No. 5/5 Florida State for a Friday clash under the lights in Tallahassee. The Nittany Lions return to Happy Valley to face previously ranked Rutgers on Sunday, Sept. 6.
