Sept. 3, 2009
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - No. 13/10 Penn State travels to No. 5/5 Florida State for a Friday night clash at the Seminole Soccer Complex. Penn State and Florida State are tied 1-1 in the all-time series. This is PSU's first trip to Tallahassee.
The Nittany Lions (2-1) look for their first two-game winning streak of the young season. Friday will be a tall order, as the Seminoles (3-0) have romped through easy opponents so far to the tune of 18-0.
A win for Penn State would be the highest-ranked opponent knocked off since the 2007 season when the Lions took out No. 4 Purdue. Florida State, on the other hand, is looking to stay perfect in its first true test of the season.
After returning home from Florida, the Nittany Lions will face Rutgers, a dangerous team at 2-0-1 in Happy Valley. The Scarlet Knights knocked off Penn State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament a year ago, while the Lions look for their fifth-straight win over RU at Jeffrey Field. PSU has never lost to Rutgers at home (4-0). Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
