Former Nittany Lion Ben Luber Joins Rider Basketball Staff

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; Aug. 9, 2009 - Former Nittany Lion point-guard Ben Luber has accepted the position of Director of Basketball Operations for Rider University's men's basketball program head coach Tommy Dempsey announced Wednesday.

"We are excited to add Ben to our staff," Dempsey said. "Ben was an outstanding player and I expect he will have a very bright future in the coaching profession."

Luber was a four-year starter at point-guard for the Nittany Lions from 2004-2007 and ranks seventh all-time in assists (418) and 10th in steals (125) in the Penn State record books. The two-time team captain graduated in 2007 having recorded 691 career points and started 97 games. An Street & Smiths honorable mention Freshmen All-American, he helped lead the Lions to the 2006 NIT.

"Rider University is a program that is dedicated to its academic and athletic excellence," said Luber, who also serves as a coach at the Ben Luber Basketball Academy after playing two seasons professionally in Israel and Iceland. "I feel very fortunate to join a coaching staff that is truly passionate about the game of basketball."
