Box Score

STORRS, Conn.-The No.24/23 Penn State women's soccer team dropped its third-straight game, 1-0, to No. 8/10 Wake Forest at Joseph J. Marrone Stadium on Friday evening. Alyssa Naeher (Seymour, Conn.) made a season-high six saves for the Nittany Lions.

In a back-and-forth game where both teams racked up 39 shots, a 42nd minute goal by Jill Hutchinson off a Bianca D'Agostino assist put the Demon Deacons over the top to improve to 7-0-0. Hutchinson's tally was her seventh of the year.

Naeher stood tall in net for Penn State (2-4-0) making six crucial saves to keep the Nittany Lions in the game.

Penn State had its opportunities, mostly in the second half with four shots on goal. The closest PSU got to equalizing the game was a sequence with five minutes left when Danielle Toney (four shots) had a breakaway shot saved by Wake Forest's Laura Morse (five saves). Shortly afterwards, Megan Monroig's chance on goal was also aved by Morse.

The Nittany Lions have struggled to find the back of the net since a three-goal outburst against UConn (Aug. 31). PSU is currently on a 190-minute scoreless slide in the three-game losing streak. The Lions also dropped to 1-3 against ranked teams this season.

PSU out-shot the Demon Deacons, 20-19. Both teams committed 12 fouls apiece, including Melissa Hayes' yellow card-worthy tackle in the 72nd minute. Wake Forest held a 10-5 edge in corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions will return to action on the second day of the UConn Soccer Classic on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. when they face Boston University.
