UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State Football's GOPSF.com and the athletic department's official website, GoPSUsports.com, have seen the popularity of their online social media components score big with fans, collectively surpassing 125,000 Facebook "friends" and all expectations in recent days.
Since re-launching just seven short weeks ago, GOPSF.com -- focused solely on the Nittany Lion football team with a video vault of more than 100 selections -- provides peeks at practice, follows the game day routine of fans' favorite players and offers daily video updates of behind-the-scenes happenings throughout the program. The recently-added social media components allow fans to post pictures from gameday, cast votes on music to be played at Beaver Stadium, follow coaching staff thoughts via Twitter and share comments on recent and upcoming games.
In addition to the increase in sheer volume of fans participating on the site, research and site traffic show that the time fans spend on both GOPSF.com and GoPSUsports.com continues to grow, while departure rates from the sites continue to diminish.
With ESPN's College GameDay and ABC a few weekend's ago for the Big Ten opener with unbeaten Iowa, both sites featured daily postings from a full house at Paternoville and following the set-up and preparation of both national broadcasts.
