Penn State Men's Volleyball Unveils 2010 Schedule

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's volleyball team unveiled its 2010 schedule Wednesday, Sept. 30. Matches with 10 teams ranked in the final AVCA Division I-II Top 15 poll highlight Penn State's schedule.

The teams from the final poll include, defending national champion UC Irvine, No. 2 USC, No. 4 Cal State-Northridge, No. 7 BYU, No. 8 Long Beach State, No. 10 Ohio State, No. 12 Lewis, Loyola-Chicago and Ball State, which were tied for No. 13, and No. 15 Hawai'i. The Nittany Lions will also take on UCSB who received votes in the final poll.

Penn State opens the 2010 season at the Outrigger Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Nittany Lions take on USC, Ohio State and the host Warriors Thursday-Saturday, Jan. 7-9. The Lions host Saint Francis (Pa.) in their home opener on Friday, Jan. 15 before their Alumni match on Jan. 16.

The 2010 spring trip has the Nittany Lions heading to California to face UC Irvine in Irvine, Calif. on Wednesday, March 10. Penn State moves on to Long Beach, Calif. for matches with BYU and Long Beach State on March 12 and 13 in the Active Ankle Classic.

This season's schedule also includes home and away matches with Penn State's Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) opponents, including Juniata, Saint Francis (Pa.), Springfield, NJIT, Princeton and George Mason. The Nittany Lions will also a home and away series with Ohio State, IPFW, Ball State, Rutgers-Newark and Loyola-Chicago.

The EIVA Quarterfinals are set for Saturday, April 24 with the top two seeds earning a bye. The EIVA Semifinals and Championship take place on Thursday and Saturday, April 29 and May 1 on the campus of the top seed.

Stanford hosts the 2010 NCAA Semifinals and Finals on Thursday and Saturday, May 6 and 8 at Maples Pavilion in Palo Alto, Calif.
