Alden Lands Big Ten Men's Swimmer of the Week Award

PARK RIDGE, Ill. - The first weekly award of the 2009-10 season came to Happy Valley on Tuesday when sophomore Brian Alden (Lansdale, Pa.) was presented with the Big Ten Men's Swimmer of the Week Award.

Alden had a successful season debut for the Nittany Lions, who defeated St. Bonaventure 144-97, behind the strength of Alden's performance. The sophomore freestyle specialist won the 100 and 200 free events in times of 46.36 and 1:40.83, respectively.

Alden paced the Nittany Lions as he teamed with John Austin (Kennett Square, Pa.), Jon Cochrane (Boalsburg, Pa.) and Mike Kaiserian (Radnor, Pa.), Alden and the squad won the 200 free relay in a time of 1:25.85.

This is the first Big Ten weekly swimming award presented to the men's team since Vincent Reydams took the honors on January 8, 2008.

The Nittany Lions return to the pool when they host West Virginia on Saturday at McCoy Natatorium. Events are set to kick off at Noon on Alumni Day.
