Henderson, Lotto, McCarthy and Simidian to Compete in Wilson/ITA Regional This Weekend

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Seniors Sarah Lotto (Toronto, Canada) and Lauren McCarthy (Danbury, Conn.) and freshmen Sarah Henderson (Auckland, New Zealand) and Amy Simidian (Carlstadt, New Jersey) will travel to Blacksburg, Va. this weekend to compete in the Wilson/ITA Atlantic Regional. The tournament will be held at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the campus of Virginia Tech.

"We are excited to compete in the region and face tough competition," said head coach Dawna Prevette. "This is a great opportunity for our freshmen."

The Atlantic Regional will feature players from 37 universities. Play begins Thursday at 8 a.m. with two qualifying rounds of doubles followed by two qualifying rounds of singles.

Last time out, the Nittany Lions had a strong showing at the University of Kentucky Invitational Oct. 9 to 11. Henderson and sophomore partner Michaela Stracar (Jericho, N.Y.) won the Flight B consolation doubles title by defeating Stephanie Villajuan and Louise Noe of Louisville, 9-8(6). Freshman Petra Januskova (Ottawa, Canada) also notched a singles win on the final day of play, topping Breanne Smutko of Illinois, 6-2, 3-6, 10-7.

The Nittany Lions will close out their fall season the weekend of Nov. 6 at the Purdue Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind. Spring play kicks off Saturday, January 23 when the Lions host Bucknell at 11 a.m.
