The top-ranked Penn State women's volleyball team welcomes Big Ten foe Ohio State to Rec Hall for their second meeting of the 2009 season on Wednesday, Oct. 28. Action is set to begin at 7 p.m.
Penn State's match with Ohio State will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network. Live audio will be available courtesy of Penn State All Access on GoPSUsports.com. Live stats will also be provided. Penn State Preview
The top-ranked Nittany Lions improved to 22-0 and 10-0 in conference play with two Big Ten victories on Oct. 23-24. Penn State defeated Indiana, 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-17), and Purdue, 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-12). This is the 33rd consecutive season the Nittany Lions have earned at least 20 victories.
The Nittany Lions attacked at a combined .397 clip against the Hoosiers and Boilermakers. Penn State averaged 13.67 kills per set, 13.33 assists per set, 2.00 aces per set, 11.67 digs per set and 4.17 blocks per set. Senior Megan Hodge led the team with 26 kills (4.33 kps), while senior setter Alisha Glass totaled 65 assists (10.83 aps). Junior libero Alyssa D'Errico tallied five of the team's 12 aces for a 0.83 aces per set average and also had a team-high 19 digs (3.17 dps). Junior Fatima Balza led the squad with 13 total blocks (2.17 bps), while both junior Arielle Wilson and Glass had 10 each (1.67 bps).
The Nittany Lions have extended their NCAA-record winning streak to 86 consecutive matches and their home match winning streak to 64. The squad also extended their Big Ten winning streak to 55 straight matches and sit atop the all-time Big Ten consecutive wins list. The Nittany Lions own the top three spots.
Scouting the Buckeyes
Ohio State is coming off two 3-1 victories against Indiana and Purdue on Oct. 23-24. The Buckeyes sit at 5-5 in conference play with its other victories against Michigan State (3-1), Iowa (3-0) and Northwestern (3-0).
Penn State vs. Ohio State
The Nittany Lions have already met the Buckeyes this season recording a 3-1 victory at Ohio State's St. John Arena. Penn State is now 33-14 all-time against the Buckeyes in a series that dates back to 1981.
