Nittany Lion Tennis to Close Fall Season at Big Ten Singles Championship

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's tennis will close the fall season this weekend in East Lansing, Mich. for the Big Ten Singles Championship. Competition will begin on Thursday at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.

Penn State had a very successful weekend last week in Norfolk, Va. at the ITA Regional Championships. Junior Eddie Bourchier (Hobart, Australia) led the way for the Nittany Lions as he picked up two singles victories and advanced to the round of 16, before losing to Virginia's Sanam Singh. Bourchier is tied for a team best 4-2 record along with sophomore Jason Lee (Melbourne, Australia) in singles action.

Lee and Bourchier have also had a stellar fall as a doubles pairing, going 6-1. The tandem made it to the quarterfinals last weekend, picking up two victories. Additionally, senior Ryan Gormley (Las Vegas, Nev.) and freshman Warren Hardie (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) made it to the quarterfinals last weekend. The pairing sits at 2-1 on the fall season. Senior Guillaume St-Maurice (Saint-Eustache, Quebec) and sophomore Taylor Cohen (Philadelphia, Pa.) are second on the team with a 3-1 record in doubles action this fall.

Doebler returns seven players from last year's team, including four starters. Penn State finished last season 14-13, the program's seventh consecutive winning season. Doebler carries a 46-32 record as head coach of the Nittany Lions.

Penn State will begin dual match play on Jan. 24 with a doubleheader matchup at home with Princeton and Lehigh.
