UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State field hockey team will enter the Big Ten Tournament as the seventh seed and will face No. 2 Ohio State in Thursday's opening round, as announced by the Big Ten conference on Saturday. The Nittany Lions will square off with the Buckeyes in the second game of the day, at approximately 1:15 p.m. The winner will advance to Friday's Big Ten Semifinals to face the winner of No. 3 Indiana and No. 6 Northwestern. This year's tournament is being hosted by Michigan State.
This marks the third consecutive season that Penn State will face Ohio State in the Big Ten Tournament. The Lions were victorious in 2007 before falling in the conference semifinals last year.
The Nittany Lions finished the season with a 6-12 record, 1-5 in conference play. They did defeat two ranked teams, including the Buckeyes, who were ranked No. 18 at the time of the Oct. 2 game. They have since propelled up to No. 13 nationally.
