UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; - The Penn State women's tennis team travels to Lexington, Ky. this weekend to play in the University of Kentucky Invitational. The Nittany Lions will be one of 12 teams competing in the event.
"We are excited to compete again," said head coach Dawna Prevette. "The team has been working hard and if we execute in the matches, it should be a nice tournament for us."
Big Ten rivals Ohio State, Illinois and Michigan will be taking part in weekend play. Kentucky, Louisville, Eastern Kentucky, East Tennessee State, Armstrong Atlantic, Abilene Christian, Vanderbilt and Virginia round out the competition.
Last time out, Penn State contested in the William & Mary Invitational Sept. 11-13. Sophomore Maria Prishlyak (Kiev, Ukraine) notched a second place finish in Flight E singles after falling to Kara Kucin of Marshall in three sets in the final, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Junior Denisa Zobeideh (Weston, Fla.) closed out the weekend with a singles win over Maggie MacKeever of Maryland, 2-6, 6-1, 10-3, in Flight B singles.
In doubles action, senior Sarah Lotto (Toronto, Ontario) and freshman Sarah Henderson (Auckland, New Zealand) handled Katie Blow and Megan Conley of Virginia Tech, 8-3, in Flight B doubles before falling to Sandra Herrera and Giovanna Portioli of Winthrop in the consolation final, 8-1.
The Nittany Lions travel to Blacksburg, Va. next weekend to take part in the ITA Regional Tournament. Following the trip to Virginia, the Lions wrap up their fall season at the Purdue Invitational the weekend of Nov. 6.
