Brown Named Big Ten Co-Player of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Junior Blair Brown (Purcellville, VA.) earned the first conference honor of her career after being named the Big Ten Co-Player of the Week on Monday, conference officials announced. Brown shares the honor with Minnesota's Lauren Gibbemeyer.

The honor brings Penn State's total Big Ten Player of the Week accolades to 72 since joining the conference for the 1991 season. This is the 12th weekly honor for the squad in 2009 as junior Arielle Wilson has been honored three times, senior Alisha Glass was chosen on Oct. 12, Hodge was selected on Sept. 12 and Nov. 2 and Dorton has been named the Freshman of the Week five times.

Brown guided the Nittany Lions to two Big Ten victories over the weekend to extend the program's winning streak to 92 consecutive matches. On Friday against NO. 5 Illinois, Brown tied her career-high with a team-high 17 kills with a .538 hitting average. She also notched two assists, an ace, one block and five digs. The following night against Northwestern, Brown tallied nine kills with a team-best .500 attack percentage. She also tied for second on the team with four total blocks.

For the weekend, Brown combined for a team-leading 26 kills (4.33 kills per set) on a squad-best .524 hitting percentage. She also finished tied for second on the team with five total blocks.

The Nittany Lions are back in action on Friday, Nov. 20 at Purdue. Action is set for 7 p.m. Penn State then travels to Indiana for a 7 p.m. matchup on Saturday, Nov. 21.
