Nittany Lions Take On Davidson Sunday To Close Charleston Classic Trip

Nov. 21, 2009

CHARLESTON, S.C., Nov. 21, 2009 - The Nittany Lion basketball team (2-2) will look to snap out of a two-game shooting slump Sunday morning when it takes on Davidson (0-3) at 10 a.m. in the last of Penn State's three contests at the Charleston Classic. The game can be heard live on the Penn State Sports Network (ESPN Radio 1450 AM locally).

The Nittany Lions have dropped a pair of games in the Classic falling to UNC-Wilmington on Thursday (80-69) and to Tulane (63-60) on Friday. Penn State has shot just 31.7 percent from the floor in the tournament and made 9-of-39 (23.1%) from three as the Lions dropped their first two contests of the year.

Penn State and Davidson have never met on the basketball floor, but Nittany Lion coach Ed DeChellis faced the Wildcats 14 times while coaching East Tennessee State in the Southern Conference. DeChellis went 6-8 in those meetings.

Davidson returns two starters and 10 lettermen from a 27-8 team last year, but lost NBA lottery pick Stephen Curry. The Wildcats have yet to post a win on the season and dropped an 84-70 decision to LaSalle Friday at the Classic. Bryant Barr led the Wildcats with 19 points in that game as Davidson knocked down 10 threes.

Talor Battle and Jeff Brooks both posted 15 points for Penn State in Friday's loss to Tulane. Battle, who tied a career high with 29 points in Thursday's game and became the Lions' 29th 1,000-point scorer, is averaging 19.8 ppg and 6.5 rpg to lead the Lions while Brooks is posting 11.5 ppg and 4.0 rpg on the season.

Penn State will return to the Bryce Jordan Center on Wednesday when they take on Sacred Heart in a 6:00 p.m. tip that will air live on the Big Ten Network.
