EL PASO, Texas - The Western Refining College All-American Golf Classic wrapped up play today as Nittany Lion, Kevin Foley, tied for 20th. Senior standout Foley was among the 32 collegiate golfers invited to compete in the No. 1 ranked tournament in the nation according to the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index.
The New Jersey native carded rounds of 70-71-75 (216) to finish at four-over par. Foley's premier round proved to be his best firing four birdies good for 1-under par. Foley finished 12 strokes back of top-three honors. Alabama's Hunter Hamrick was the tournament champion with rounds of 66-67-69 (202).
"It was an honor to be back again playing with the best of the best," said Foley. "It doesn't get any better than this tournament. I didn't play the way I would have hoped, but I am walking away with a great experience. I am looking forward to a little time off from golf after the great time I had this past week."
The 54-hole tournament invites the top players from around the nation to compete for individual medalist honors. As part of the competition, each school represented by a participant is awarded a $1,000 scholarship for its golf program.
Foley will return back to State College, Pa., and to his team to begin practice and conditioning for the 2010 spring season. Play will continue on February 12 at the second annual Big Ten Match Play in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
