UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; Nov. 24, 2009 - The Nittany Lion basketball team (3-2) will return to the Bryce Jordan Center on Wednesday when it takes on Sacred Heart (2-2) in a 6:00 p.m. tip live on the Big Ten Network. Former Nittany Lion guard Jon Crispin will call his first BTN game as an analyst alongside long time Pennsylvania sportscaster Paul Alexander. The game can also be heard live on the Penn State Sports Network.
Penn State will look to warm-up its shooting after a tough 34 percent shooting performance in going 1-2 at the Charleston Classic over the weekend. Penn State rebounded to knock of Davidson (59-57) on Sunday after dropping games to UNC Wilmington and Tulane.
The play of junior Jeff Brooks (Louisville, Ky.) and the Nittany Lion freshmen highlighted the Classic run as Penn State worked to develop its offensive production in the early season. Brooks averaged 12.0 ppg and 3.7 rpg while shooting 53 percent from the floor and twice leading the team in scoring. Brooks posted a career-high 15 points vs. Tulane and led Penn State with 12 vs. Davidson. The 6-8, junior has posted four double-digit scoring games on the season thus far.
Freshman Tim Frazier (Houston, Texas) got his first career start vs. Davidson and made an instant impact helping fuel and early 19-point Nittany Lion lead and leading the team with three steals and three assists in the game. Fellow freshman Bill Edwards (Middletown, Ohio) also saw his first action in that game after an early season MCL injury and scored within seconds of entering the game. He logged eight points and a team-high tying six rebounds for the contest.
Sacred Heart is in the midst of a three-game road swing, which has seen it drop games at Fordham (76-66) and Xavier (105-65). The Pioneers are led by 6-5, senior forward Cory Hassan who is posting 26.5 ppg. Hassan scored 17 in last season's 73-65 victory over SHU in the Jordan Center.
