Clubhouse Currently Under Construction for Penn State Golf Teams

Dec. 17, 2009

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - A new state-of-the-art clubhouse is currently under construction for the women's and men's golf teams at the Penn State Golf Courses. It is located conveniently near the first tees of both the Blue and White golf courses and is right beside the Walker Clubhouse.

The Varsity Clubhouse, which is scheduled to be complete on May 31, 2010, will provide the teams with a place head coach Denise St. Pierre calls `home.' The Clubhouse is designed by Robert Hoffman and will contain numerous amenities that will help to add to the advancement of the golf programs.

"The quality of time and care that has gone into planning this facility will show in the workmanship of fine details that will be evident once the building is completed," said head coach Denise St. Pierre. "This facility will bring a sense of place for the varsity golf teams."

Among these amenities are offices, where both the head and assistant coaches will receive their own space. Along with that, it will contain a locker room for both the men and women, with club storage for the players to leave their equipment at the course. A team lounge will provide a big screen TV and a sitting area where the team can conduct meetings or players can study. An outdoor patio will be constructed next to a new practice putting green.

The clubhouse also consists of important components to help in the development of the athletes. The building will contain a team workout area with indoor-to-outdoor hitting bays and a heated indoor-to-net practice facility. To round out the facility is a V-1 system where the players can take part in video instruction.

"This facility will help open doors to assisting in hosting NCAA and conference tournaments as well as alumni and team gatherings," St. Pierre continued. "We are excited to see this project taking shape and look forward to stepping into our new `home' this coming spring."
