Cyler Sanderson Earns Second Big Ten Wrestler of the Week Honor

Dec. 22, 2009

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Penn State Nittany Lion wrestler Cyler Sanderson (Heber City, Utah) has been named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week for the week ending on December 20. The honor is Sanderson's second this year and the third for Penn State as a team.

Sanderson picks up his second Wrestler of the Week honor of the season, this time winning the award after going 5-0 and claiming the 157-pound title at the Reno Tournament of Champions where Penn State finished third overall. The third-ranked 157-pounder scored a pair of technical falls and a major decision in his first three bouts to advance to the semifinals. There, Sanderson earned a hard-fought 6-5 decision over No. 14 Bryce Saddoris of Navy to advance to the final, where the senior defeated No. 5 Adam Hall of Boise State, 3-2, to earn the title.

Penn State, which is 5-1-1 in dual meets, will resume dual meet action on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, when it heads to nearby Lock Haven University to face the Bald Eagles in a 3 p.m. dual at Thomas Fieldhouse. The Nittany Lions' next home event will be on Jan. 22 when the Illinois Illini come to State College. Single event tickets for Nittany Lion wrestling cost $8 for adults and $6 for youth.
