Simidian Ranked No. 16 in ITA Atlantic Singles

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; - Freshman Amy Simidian (Carlstadt, N.J.) has been listed at No. 16 in the Jan. 5 ITA Atlantic Top 20 singles rankings. The freshman led Penn State in fall play with a 7-4 overall record.

Simidian's young career has been highlighted by an upset win over then-No. 107 Ragini Acharya of William & Mary at the Wilson/ITA Atlantic Regional in October, 6-4, 6-4. In two of her four losses this year, Simidian has forced play to three sets.

The rookie Nittany Lion went undefeated in singles play at the Purdue Invitational in November, winning all four of her matches. She notched victories over Michigan State's Amy Barton, 7-6(2), 6-1, Jennifer Rabot of Purdue, 6-2, 6-4, Marquette's Paola Calderon, 6-4, 7-5, and Bhavani Tirumurti of Purdue, 6-4, 6-3.

The Lions kick off spring play next Saturday, Jan. 23 when they host the Bucknell Bison at the Penn State Indoor Tennis Center at 11 a.m. The team then travels to Lehigh on Sunday, Jan. 24 for a 3 p.m. match. Admission to all home matches is free.
