GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala - Sophomore midfielder Christine Nairn (Arnold, Md.) led the United States U-20 women's national team to a 5-0 win on Thursday evening. Nairn scored twice in the opening game for the Americans in the CONCACAF U-20 Championship at Estadio Concretos Progreso.
Nairn opened up the proceedings with a tally in the ninth minute off a pass from Tiffany McCarty, giving the United States an early 1-0 lead.
The U.S. would close the opening half with two more goals, taking a 3-0 lead into the intermission. After a Teresa Nyola marker in the 50th minute, Nairn struck again with a free-kick tally from 20 yards away in the 72nd minute. McCarty would add another before the game concluded, giving the United States a convincing 6-0 win.
The Nairn and the U.S. will be back in action on Saturday when the Americans take on Trinidad & Tobago at 5:30 p.m. Fellow Nittany Lion Lexi Marton (Aurora, Canada) plays tomorrow for the Canadians at 3 p.m. against Cuba. The games will be streamed live through CONCACAFtv.com.
