UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The 19th-ranked Penn State women's gymnastics team hosts No. 1 Alabama and No. 23 Minnesota on Saturday, Jan. 30 in Rec Hall. Meet action is set to begin at 7 p.m.
Live scoring will be available via a link at GoPSUsports.com. The Big Ten Network will tape the meet and broadcast it on Feb. 5 at 6 p.m.
The Series: Penn State vs. Alabama
Alabama holds a 27-2 record against the Nittany Lions dating back to the first meeting in 2003. Penn State's first win against the Crimson Tide came in 1999. The Nittany Lions earned a one-point victory against Alabama with a score of 197.025-106.025. Last season, Penn State secured its second win against the Tide in a tri-meet with Ohio State. The Nittany Lions scored a 196.650 for first place and Alabama took second with a 196.625.
The Series: Penn State vs. Minnesota
The Nittany Lions are 17-4 against the Gophers. The teams first met in 1991 at a tri-meet at Florida with William & Mary. Florida won the meet with a score of 193.70, but the Nittany Lions took second (190.80) and Minnesota placed third (188.15). This will be the first meeting between the Nittany Lions and the Gophers during the regular season since 2007. Last season at the Big Ten Championships, Penn State took third (196.525), while Minnesota finished fourth (196.000).
What's Next?
Penn State hosts Illinois on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. in Rec Hall. The Nittany Lions travel to Pittsburgh on Feb. 13 before returning home to host West Virginia on Feb. 20.
