Severe Weather Forces Penn State to Withdraw From Match Play

Feb. 12, 2010

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's golf team will not compete in this weekend's Big Ten Match Play Championships due to severe weather conditions that canceled all travel options. The uncontrollable withdrawal was disappointing for the team as it was looking forward to the conference tournament and the start of its spring season. The tournament will still take place Feb. 12-13 despite the absence of Penn State.

The Nittany Lions will take a second attempt to compete in their spring opener at the sixth annual Pinehurst Intercollegiate in Pinehurst, N.C., March 12- 14. They look to defend their title as the 2009 Pinehurst Champions. Last year, the Nittany Lions topped the leader board with a two-under par (862) beating nationally ranked opponents No. 34 Michigan State and No. 36 Michigan. Penn State holds the low 54-hole team total record with 852 and the low final-round score of 279. T.J. Howe took home the 2009 individual title with a tournament-record final score of 209.
