Jeremy Boone
Punter
Mechanicsburg, Pa.
One of the greatest punters in Penn State history, Jeremy Boone sealed his legacy in the Capital One Bowl win by finishing the game as the school's career punting leader, with an average of 43.12 yards, eclipsing the record of 43.0 set by George Reynolds (1980-83). A former walk-on, Boone has been a model of consistency over the past three seasons, playing an unsung, but important role in the success of the Nittany Lions' Top 10 defense. Boone averaged 43.3 yards on his 53 punts this season, with an impressive 21 landing inside the 20. His 43.3 yard per punt average left him in a tie for second-best in school history behind Ralph Giacomarro's 43.6 average in 1981. Boone had only 11 touchbacks and 14 punts traveled 50 yards or more, with a long of 66 yards. He ranked second in the Big Ten and 19th in the nation with his 43.3 average and owns three of the Top 20 longest punts in school history (70, 68 and 66 yards). Boone earned All-Big Ten honors twice, being named first-team in 2007 and second-team this past season. At the State College Quarterback Club Senior Banquet, Boone was the recipient of the John Bruno Jr. Memorial Award, presented to the squad's top special teams player. A May 2009 graduate in elementary and kindergarten education, Boone was selected ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District for the second consecutive year.
