Penn State Lady Lion freshman Marisa Wolfe (Ford City, Pa.) was selected as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the week-ending Feb. 21 after posting a career night in an overtime win over Michigan on Thursday night. Wolfe is the third different Lady Lion to earn Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors this season, joining Nikki Greene (Diboll, Texas) and Alex Bentley (Indianapolis, Ind.).
Wolfe turned in the best performance of her young career against Michigan on Feb. 18. The rookie set career highs with 13 points and six rebounds in a personal-best 22 minutes off of the bench. Wolfe was 5-for-7 from the field, both of which were personal bests. Wolfe was a perfect 3-for-3 from the free throw line against the Wolverines and blocked shot for the 10th time in her career. Her previous career high was 10 points at Northwestern (1/3/10) and five rebounds, which she accumulated on three occasions this year.
The rookie post averages 2.7 points and 2.5 rebounds per outing. Wolfe has also accumulated 10 blocks and 13 steals this season. She has been stellar from the field, shooting 54.7% (29-53) from the field and 72.7% (8-11) from the free throw line. Wolfe has also made two of her three attempts from behind the arc this year.
