UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State men's volleyball outside hitter Joe Sunder (Greensburg, Pa.) was named the EIVA Player of the Week, conference officials announced. This is the first honor of Sunder's career and the third for the Nittany Lions, as senior Will Price (Gaithersburg, Md.) was honored Jan. 18 and redshirt sophomore Edgardo Goas (San Juan, Puerto Rico) on Jan. 25.
The redshirt sophomore guided Penn State to two victories this past weekend, including a 3-0 sweep of Rutgers-Newark and a 3-1 win against EIVA foe Springfield. Against the Scarlet Raiders, Sunder scored 17 points on 15 kills, one ace and two blocks. He attacked at a .565 clip and also tallied three digs. On Saturday versus the Pride, Sunder was second on the team with 14 kills on .323 hitting. He also contributed five digs and two blocks.
For the weekend, Sunder averaged 4.14 kills per set, 0.14 aces per set, 1.14 digs per set and 0.57 blocks per set.
The Nittany Lions are back in action on Feb. 12-13 when they host Laval. Friday's match will be played in South Gym at 7 p.m. Penn State returns to the main gym of Rec Hall on Saturday for their second match with Laval at 7 p.m.
