Fencers Sweep Competition at the Temple Invitational

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - After falling to #2 in the USFCA Rankings, The Penn State fencing team came back strong by sweeping their opponents at the Temple Invitational. The one-day event was on Feb. 27.

In the first round, the Penn State women's team had a difficult bout against #8 Temple, but managed to come out on top with a 14-13 victory. The Penn State men's team had its rematch against #5 St. John's and beat them by a score of 16-11, the same exact score as their first encounter. A strong 8-1 showing in the foil helped carry the men's team to this win.

In the second round, the women's team had their rematch with #6 St. John's, who beat them the first time around by 14-13. This time, the women's team took control and won by a score of 17-10. The men's team continued their success with another 16-11 win against #9 Duke.

In the final round, the women's team finished the day strong, beating Duke 18-9.

With collegiate dual action coming to a close this past Saturday, the Mid-Atlantic/South NCAA Regional Championships will take place on Saturday, March 13. In this competition, strong performances by Penn State are necessary to get a spot in the NCAA Championships later in the month. The event will take place in Madison, N.J. starting at 8 a.m.
