PRINCETON, N.J.; - The Penn State women's tennis team (4-10, 0-2 Big Ten) fell to No. 27 Princeton (10-4, 0-0 Ivy League) today, 7-0. Princeton opened the match with the doubles point and swept singles competition. The Nittany Lions are back at home Friday, April 2 to face Big Ten rivals Iowa and Minnesota.
In doubles play, the nation's No. 19 duo of Hilary Bartlett and Taylor Marable defeated senior Sarah Lotto (Toronto, Ontario) and freshman Amy Simidian (Carlstadt, N.J.), 8-1. Blakely Ashley and Megan Chow grabbed the doubles point for Princeton with a 8-2 victory over senior Lauren McCarthy (Danbury, Conn.) and sophomore Michaela Stracar (Jericho, N.Y.). In the third doubles match of the day, freshman Petra Januskova (Ottawa, Canada) and sophomore Maria Prishlyak (http://www.netitor.com/javascript/wysiwyg/tiny_mce/themes/advanced/langs/en.js">Kiev, Ukraine) dropped an 8-2 decision to Melissa and Rachel Saiontz on the No. 2 court.
With Princeton leading 1-0, the match moved into singles. Rachel Saiontz topped McCarthy on the No. 3 court, 6-4, 6-0, as Sarah Hoffman followed shortly after with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Stracar in sixth singles to put Princeton up 3-0.
Marable clinched the match victory for the Tigers despite a fight from Prishlyak, winning on the No. 4 court, 6-0, 2-6, 6-4. Following in fifth singles, junior Denisa Zobeideh (Weston, Fla.) fell to Ashley, 6-1, 7-5(5). Ranked rivals No. 81 Bartlett and No. 71 Januskova followed in first singles, with Bartlett coming away with a win in three sets, 7-5, 2-6, 6-1.
In the final match of the day, Rachel Saiontz topped Simidan in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, to complete the singles sweep for Princeton.
