COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Penn State men's swimming & diving team's representative at the NCAA Championships, Brian Alden (Lansdale, Pa.), finished 30th in the 100 freestyle on Sunday at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
Alden, Penn State's only NCAA participant, bested his seed time (43.84) by .05 and 13 places, finishing in a time of 43.79, good for 30th and representing the team's best time of the year. Alden opened in his first 50 yards with at time of 21.12, closing his race with a time of 22.67. Alden was 14 spots off of qualifying for Sunday's finals.
Alden competed in one event each day of competition in the NCAA Championships. In addition to the 100 freestyle, Alden swam in the 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle events in previous days.
The NCAA Championships represent the final meet of the year for the Nittany Lion swimming & diving team. Next year, the Lions will welcome at least eight newcomers to the squad for the 2010-11 season starting in October.
