COLUMBUS, OHIO - Future Penn State Lady Lion signee Maggie Lucas (Narberth, Pa./Germantown Academy) won the three-point shootout at the McDonald's All-American Powerade Jam Fest on Monday night in Columbus, Ohio. Lucas is the first Lady Lion signee to win the three-point shootout as a McDonald's All-American.
Lucas, who attends Germantown Academy, scored 22 points in the final round to win the competition over Tennessee signee Meighan Simmons (13) and Florida State recruit Natasha Howard (12). The Powerade Jam Fest will be replayed multiple times this week on the ESPN family of networks, check local listings for replay dates and times.
The Narberth native will play for the East team in the McDonald's All-American High School Game on Wednesday at Value City Arena. The girls game will tip at 5:30 p.m. and be broadcast live on ESPNU. Lucas is the second McDonald's High School All-American in school history and is one of two Big Ten recruits on the 2010 McDonald's All-America team.
Lucas native was recently named to the "Parade Magazine" 34th Annual All-America High School Girls Basketball fourth team. She led Germantown Academy to its second-straight Pennsylvania Independent Schools State Title. The three-time All-State selection averaged 23 points, 4.5 assists and 3.8 steals per game her senior season. The Patriots collected Inter-Academic League Championship each of her four years. She passed the 2,000-point plateau for her career in January and finished her career with 2,197 tallies, which is second in school history (boys or girls).
Lucas is one of four newcomers in Coquese Washington's 2010 recruiting class, which is ranked No. 20 by ESPN HoopGurlz. Lucas is joined by Ariel Edwards (Elmont, N.Y./Christ the King), Talia East (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends' Central) and transfer Mia Nickson (Ashburn, Va./Notre Dame Academy/Boston College).
