Kevin Foley Named Big Ten Golfer of the Week

April 14, 2010

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Senior Nittany Lion golfer, Kevin Foley (Somerville, N.J.) has been named this week's Big Ten Golfer of the Week, announced Wednesday.

Foley fired an unprecedented 69-68-68, 205-tournament total to occupy the top slot on the Kepler Intercollegiate leaderboard in Columbus, Ohio. Foley's 8-under-par tournament-total, 205, set the Kepler individual scoring record by five strokes, bettering the previous record, 210, posted in 1991, 1998, and 2000.

Foley's dominance on the Scarlett links guided the Nittany Lions to a heated second-place finish, just two strokes back of tournament champion, Eastern Michigan.

This first-place finish marks Foley's fifth of his Lion career, earning him, his second Big Ten Golfer of the Week recognition. He was previously recognized April 22, 2009 after tying for first-place at the Boilermaker Invitational.

"Kevin worked very hard in preparation for the Kepler, established a specific game plan for the Scarlet golf course, and he went out and executed it extremely well," said head coach Greg Nye. "It was one of Penn State's best ever individual championships."

Foley is the second Penn State golfer to be recognized with the conference honor this season. Junior Tommy McDonagh (East Norwalk, Conn.) earned the title on March 17.

Penn State returns to action April 24-25 when it hosts the 2010 Rutherford Intercollegiate on its home Blue Course.
