Men's Golf Team Set to Host 34th Rutherford Intercollegiate

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's golf team will host the 2010 Rutherford Intercollegiate golf tournament this Saturday and Sunday, April 24-25. This weekend's match marks the 34th edition and will feature 14 aggressive teams for the two-day, 54-hole event at the Penn State Blue Course.

The Nittany Lions will entertain 14 other squads at the par 71, 7,202-yard Penn State Blue Course, with the first and second rounds set for Saturday beginning at 7:30 a.m. The final round is slated for Sunday and will start at 8 a.m. There will be split-tees on holes one and ten for all three rounds of play.

Host Penn State, welcomes Bowling Green, Delaware, Francis Marion, George Mason, George Washington, James Madison, Longwood, Ohio University, Richmond University, St. Bonaventure, Saint Joseph's, Temple, and Towson.

Penn State enters the tournament as the highest ranked team in the field, ranked No. 62 in the nation by Golfweek, correspondingly. Penn State slides into this weekend after a second-place finish at the Kepler Intercollegiate at Ohio State. Towson looks to keep the field on its toes as it enters the weekend coming out on top at the 2010 CAA Championships. The Tigers claimed their first CAA title on Sunday, April 18 giving them an automatic bid to the 2010 NCAA Tournament.

Senior Nittany Lion, Kevin Foley (Somerville, N.J.) is the highest ranked individual on the tournament card, ranked No. 46 in the nation according to Golfweek.

Former Nittany Lion, Adam Decker ('97) will return to his previous home links as head coach of the University of Richmond Spiders. Decker is in his fifth season with the Spiders, joining the coaching staff after spending one year as an assistant coach at Penn State. Decker earned All-America honors and Mid-Atlantic Region Player of the Year as a senior Nittany Lion. Decker currently holds the eighth position on Penn State's all-time career-list for stroke average at 74.90.

With last fall's shift in location, the 33rd installment of the Rutherford was played at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort on the Mystic Rock Golf Course. The 2008 fall Rutherford Intercollegiate saw Purdue win its first title with a tournament score of 871. VCU placed second and Penn State came in third. Nakarintra Ratanakul of Purdue won the individual title shooting a score of 211.
