UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Junior Gia Fanelli (West Palm Beach, Fla.) has earned the Big Ten Golfer of the Week honor following her performance at the Canes and Cardinal Classic hosted by Miami on April 5 and 6. This is Fanelli's first ever weekly honor.
"Gia has been playing consistent all season," said head coach Denise St. Pierre. "Gia has a steady composure that reflects her steady and consistent play. I am very proud of her."
The junior out of West Palm Beach, Fla., carded her best round of the season with a 73 on the first day of the tournament to help lead the Nittany Lions to an eighth place finish. Her 74 in the third and final round sealed a tie for fourth place, matching her career-best. Her previous fourth place finish was earned at the Bucknell Invitational last season. She finished the tournament at +10 with a 226 (73-79-74).
Fanelli is averaging 79 strokes-per-round, good for second on the team. She has competed in all 21 rounds for the Nittany Lions thus far this season. Penn State will continue play at the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational hosted by Ohio State on April 17 and 18.
